If Richard Rodgers were still alive, he would have turned one
hundred years old on June 28, 2002. There have been numerous
national and international special events honoring him. It has
been said his music is the most performed of any American
composer. "In 2001 alone, the Rodgers and Hammerstien
Organization, which oversees all of Rodgers' musical and theatrical
interests, licensed three thousand eighty-five of his shows. If
you were to calculate the number of performances that Rodgers' shows
have had on Broadway, the total would be twenty thousand four hundred
and fifty-seven, or figuring eight a week, the equivalent of fifty years
of a Broadway run." (The New Yorker, July 1, 2002) Rodgers'
work as a composer, especially within the context of musical theater, is
legendary. He wrote hundreds of songs including show tunes,
popular standards and orchestral music - waltzes in particular.
Special Guests:
Our special guests tonight include Shayne Flock and Jamie Parkinson
singing "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" from The Sound of
Music. Shayne is a student at Crater High School and Jamie is
from North Medford. Also, because you can't do The Sound of
Music without children, we have the privilege of having a group of
singers from the Rogue Valley Children's Chorus. The Children's
Chorus is under the business and artistic umbrella of the Chorale and is
directed by Doris Sjolund.
Instrumentalists:
Pianists: Andrea Brock, Pamela Nordquist, Kathleen Davis, Mark Reppert
